Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)

Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is where 'washed semen' (sperm that have been removed from the seminal fluid) are introduced into the uterus at the optimum time in your cycle. Treatment can include a natural or a stimulated cycle, and scans on a regular basis. When two or less follicles have developed to the appropriate size, an injection is given which helps get the oocytes ready for fertilitsaion.

On the day of IUI, the male partner is requested to attend the clinic to provide a sample. This will be prepared in the lab with the IUI procedure itself taking just about 15 minutes. It is a simple procedure which doesn't require any sedation or pain relief.

There is a 15 to 20% success rate with this method. We recommend up to three IUI attempts. If unsuccessful, we would then encourage you to consider moving to the next option, which would be.

Suitable candidates for IUI include:

  • Women under the age of 40 with patent (open) fallopian tubes
  • Women with a normal ovarian reserve profile
  • Women not suffering with Endometriosis
  • Good Semen Analysis
